We are looking for a seasoned engineering leader for the Head of Engineering (Director Level) role in our Menlo Park headquarters. In this role, you will lead all our US engineering teams. This includes Cloud Services, Mobile, Web, and Mac, and you’ll coordinate closely with our Head of Data Science to integrate and support our machine learning/AI initiatives. You will report directly to our Chief Technology Officer.  

Responsibilities: 
  • Directly manage and mentor the engineering managers of the different teams under the scope of this role
  • Steer important technology decisions taking into consideration strategic imperatives
  • Deliver high-quality products and services to our customers through engineering excellence
  • Manage engineering roadmaps that align with the business priorities defined by Product Management
  • Make decisions on the organizational structure to ensure it is aligned to support company objectives
  • Utilize operating mechanisms for effective interaction between stakeholders
  • Be a champion of engineering best practices as appropriate (design for re-use, unit testing, etc.)
  • Recruit engineering talent into the organization while ensuring we can retain our top performers
  • Act as an advisor to the senior leadership team by having the credibility as someone who can be relied upon
  • Interact with engineering counterparts of external partner organizations and ensure our company interests are protected
  • Be responsible for the deliverables and releases of multiple products and services under the scope of this role, including their performance in production
  • Guide teams with technical insights and problem-solving techniques when facing complex issues, especially those reported by customers in production
  • Communicate work status and other relevant information to the rest of the organization thru applicable operating mechanisms
  • Build a motivational engineering culture that is in alignment with company values
Qualifications: 
  • 15+ years of experience in the software industry with 5+ years in engineering management
  • Experienced in managing and mentoring managers and architects
  • Successful track record of leading multiple teams working on diverse technologies
  • Demonstratable past technical accomplishments and continues to remain hands-on (including coding)
  • Able to get the big technical picture as well as having the ability to dive into details
  • Able to make business and technology trade-offs and long vs. short term decisions
  • Passionate about understanding the customer and able to look at a problem from a customer’s perspective
  • Can think strategically and follow it up with executional excellence
  • Solid communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively at different levels of the organization, including with C-suite
  • Strong understanding of how to set up the organization optimally to deliver company objectives
  • Ability to define processes and to operate mechanisms that enhance organization productivity
  • Good project management skills with an understanding of Agile methodologies
  • Organization savvy--able to navigate both vertically and horizontally
  • Familiarity with working in a geographically distributed environment
  • BS/MS in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent
