We make improvements with every release. Some of them are big and get a lot of attention, but others are smaller. Often the smaller ones are customer-driven changes that have been brought to our attention through our Community Forum . For many customers, these improvements fix a pain point or open up options they had been waiting for.

Use find to search a specific field or any field

The Find ( CTRL+F ) tool now gives you the ability to set a default preference of either searching an individual field in the register or searching Any field in the register. This change gives you the power to adapt the Find tool to your needs. To default to any field, in the Quicken Find window, select Find in ‘Any field’ by default . If you don’t select this, the default will be the last field you searched.

Add Notes to a Transaction Report

Some customers find it useful to include Notes when they create or print a Transaction Report. Many customers don’t use the Notes column and would not need it in a report, but for those customers who want to see their Notes , the ability to add them to the transaction report makes the report much more useful to them. You can also include them when printing your report. Notes will not be included by default, but if you need them, create a transaction report and select the Customize Report gear button, then select Notes under Show Columns .

Compare to Register gives you the ability to delete multiple transactions

The Compare to Register feature lets you look at each downloaded transaction before adding it to your register. This is a great tool for people who closely monitor their transactions. In the past, you could only delete a single transaction at a time. Now you can delete multiple transactions at once. First, you will need to select your transactions. Sort the columns to group the transactions you are looking for, and use the shift key to click on multiple transactions and select them. Once you select your transactions you can delete them using the Delete key, CTRL+D, right-click Delete Transactions , or the Delete button. As always, you will be asked to confirm the deletion.

Updating categories for a payee is easier than ever

When you add or change a category for a payee in the register, you can now see a prompt to Update all categories for this payee? This makes it easy to apply a category to past transactions without having to go back and change each entry individually. Choosing yes will update the other transactions. You also have the option to choose No or Never for this Payee. You can turn the feature off by selecting Do not offer to change past transactions . You can also turn the feature off or set it to only apply to uncategorized transactions by updating Data entry and QuickFill preferences.

There’s now a keyboard shortcut for Go to Matching Transfer

Back in the early days of Quicken, there was a keyboard shortcut for Go to Matching Transfer . Unfortunately, when we standardized shortcuts for cut, copy, and paste, we had to eliminate the original keyboard shortcut. Now there’s a new shortcut, CTRL+SHIFT+X . Use this when you are viewing a transfer in one account and want to see the transfer in another account.

Customize Asset Classes

To make importing and managing investments easier, customers who use Quicken’s investment tools can now name and edit their custom asset classes . These classes can be used in your investment allocation view and reports. To add an asset allocation, edit your security. Under Asset Class, select Customize . Edit any of the custom categories to give it the Custom Asset Class Name name you want to use. Please note that Quicken’s pre-defined asset classes cannot be edited.

Custom register fonts now apply to investments

Another change to investments is that the investment register can now use the same custom fonts and font sizes that you use for your other registers. This makes it easier for you to change the font type and font size to suit your readability needs.

Some customers prefer a larger font, while others want something more compact. Some customers just have a favorite font that they are comfortable working with. Whatever your preference, you can now change the font for all of your registers by going to Edit menu → Preferences → Register → Fonts .

Edit or delete multiple investment transactions

If you need to modify more than one investment transaction, you can now use the Edit Multiple Transactions option accessed from the Investing register gear icon. You will see an Edit Multiple Transactions window.

In the window, you can use the Select column to select as many investments as you need. You also have the option to Select All . Once you have selected your transactions, you can Duplicate , Mark Reconciled , Mark Cleared , Mark Uncleared , or Delete the transactions. This is a feature many of our investing customers have been requesting.

Quicken for Mac

This month Quicken for Mac is rolling out some exciting new product updates. These new features will make it easier for Quicken users to monitor investments, manage account issues, track loans in their budget, and reconcile online accounts. We’ve also made it easier for users to understand when their register transactions are being filtered.

We’ve added a new Investing Dashboard

We’ve improved the look and feel of the Investing Dashboard. Now, when you go Investing, you will get more information. You’ll see your Holdings, the day’s Top Movers, your investment Allocation by Security, and your Asset Allocation. The overall look is modernized as well, not only making the page more attractive but bringing it into alignment with the look of the rest of Quicken for Mac and the style and standards set for macOS.

You can now choose Simple Tracking for your investments

Some customers like to track as many investment details as possible. Others aren’t interested in every detail, and just want to see the key information about what their investments are worth. Now you can choose between our new SimpleTracking and traditional DetailedTracking when you set up a new investing account. You also can change your tracking at any time using Account Settings.

Simple Tracking is for users who want a straightforward view of their investments. It does not track the transaction data that some users don’t need or have trouble interpreting. When you don’t need detailed investment tracking information, Simple Investing gives you the most important information about your investments.

New Sidebar Indicators help identify account issues

In the best of scenarios, you never need to make changes to your online account information, but sometimes issues crop up with your connected accounts. The password may have changed, the bank may be requesting verification information, or some other issue is keeping Quicken for Mac from properly tracking your account.

Now we’ve made it easier to spot accounts with issues. You will see indicator dots next to any account having synchronization issues or service disruptions. When you select the account in the sidebar, a banner notification appears with a button to help you resolve the issue.

Budget Detailed Loan Payments

Tracking your loans in your budget is a good way to be sure you are budgeting for all of your outgoing money. In some cases though, your loans may need to be split across multiple budget categories. Now you can accurately add and track those loans within your budget.

From the Budgets tab, select Edit Budget -> Select Categories. You’ll see a new section labeled Loans (Detailed Payments). You can scroll through the list or start filtering by typing the name in the field above the list.

Use automatic reconciliation to quickly reconcile your online accounts

We’ve added a new Auto-Reconcile feature to Quicken for Mac. Auto-Reconcile ensures that your Quicken for Mac balance matches your online balance whenever you update your accounts.

To turn on this feature, right-click on your account and select Edit “xxx” Settings. You will have the option to have Quicken reconcile the account automatically, or to review the new transactions before your account can be marked as reconciled.

Clear Filters Button

It’s easy to forget when your register is filtered, so we’ve made the ClearFilters button easier to see. It’s a lovely green now, and easy to spot at the top of your register.

Quicken for Windows This month we wanted to show you a collection of some of the improvements made to Quicken over the past few months.
