Firewalls enable you to control which of the programs on your computer can access the Internet and what content you can view online. Firewalls are essential security tools. However, if they are not configured correctly, they can prevent Quicken from accessing the Internet.

To determine if a firewall is blocking Quicken from accessing the Internet, on the Quicken Help menu, select Quicken Support. If you do not see the Quicken.com website, a firewall is blocking Quicken from accessing the Internet.

Third party firewalls

Firewalls distinguish allowed programs from programs that are not allowed by considering attributes such as the name, version, file size, and the date a program was installed or last updated. This means installing a new version of Quicken or downloading an update can make the information about Quicken inconsistent with what the firewall expects. When that happens, the firewall may block Quicken from connecting to the Internet. If. after upgrading to a new version of Quicken or installing a patch, you can no longer connect to the Internet from Quicken, you must update the list of allowed programs in your firewall software to include Quicken. For more information, refer to the manufacturer's instructions for your firewall program. The following links may also help you configure your firewall software.

Operating system firewalls

Windows includes a built-in firewall that might need to be configured before Quicken can access the Internet. For information about the Windows firewall, visit http://support.microsoft.com/. Windows has information about configuring firewalls in its Security Center.

To open the Security Center:

  1. Click the Windows Start button, then select Control Panel. In Windows 10, the Control Panel is located in the Windows System folder in the Start menu.
  2. Click System and Security.
  3. Select Windows Firewall.

Internet Service Provider firewalls

If you set parental controls, or some other type of mechanism that filters the content you can access on the Internet, you might need to adjust the content filter settings to allow Quicken to be able to access the Internet. For more information about configuring these settings, contact your Internet service provider (ISP).

Home network firewalls

Most routers include a built-in firewall to provide additional security for your home network. If use a router and Quicken is unable to connect to the Internet, try disconnecting the router and connecting your computer directly to your modem. If this modification enables Quicken to connect to the Internet, you need to configure the router or update the router software. For instructions, contact the router manufacturer. The websites of some router manufacturers are listed below.

Corporate firewalls

A corporate firewall can prevent Quicken from connecting to the Internet. If Quicken cannot connect to the Internet on your office connection, contact your system administrator for assistance.
