How do I open an account?


  • What if my account has many transactions and is slow to open?
    Having several years worth of transaction history appear every time you open an account can slow down your work and add visual clutter. If this is your situation, consider managing the size of your Quicken data file. The way to do this is to archive the older transactions using either the Archive or Create New Year features.

    Archive - To store a copy of your Quicken file and keep working with your current file. The copy is sometimes called an "archive".

    Create New Year - To save a backup copy of your entire file and delete old transactions from your current file. Any uncleared transactions will be copied to the new file. If you do not want these transactions to appear in the new file, reconcile your accounts to mark them as cleared. In previous versions of Quicken, Create New Year was referred to as Start New Year.
