How Quicken Determines Security Asset Size: Large, Medium, or Small

Overview

You might want to understand how Quicken determines if a security asset is Large, Medium, or Small.

Information

We use the Newport group's definition of Asset Classes. They define anything above $3 billion in Market Cap as a large cap stock and anything less as Small Cap stock.  Bonds and international are self explained based on title of asset class. Other is the catch all and can include things we cannot identify or things such as Real Estate which is not defined in the Newport model.

To View or change the asset class of a stock or mutual fund:

  1. In Quicken, on your keyboard, hold down Ctrl + Y
  2. Right-click on a stock or mutual fund and select edit.
  3. Once you change the asset class, click OK.
