Quicken 2014 Crash When Opening Program or File

Quicken 2014 may close without any error messaging when attempting to launch the program after successfully using it in prior sessions. Double-clicking the Quicken icon would result in the Quicken start-up/splash-screen being displayed briefly, and then nothing else happens.

User.config is a Quicken System file that holds the last known screen size/position state for the Quicken program. If this file becomes damaged or corrupted, it can prevent Quicken from opening. Before proceeding further, please make sure you're on the latest release of Quicken 2014.

If you're on the latest release, but still unable to open the program, please use the following steps to correct a Quicken System issue:

  • Download UserConfigFix
  • Double-click the downloaded file to open it
  • Double-click the UserConfigFix.bat file and allow it to run
  • Download and install the Mondo Patch
  • Launch Quicken 2014 after update is complete, to confirm the crash condition is now resolved

If this process still fails to resolve the issue, you can try a manual solution:

  • Browse to the User.Config file, found in the following location (based on your operating system)
    • Windows XP = C:\Documents and Settings\<your user Name>\Local Settings\Application Data\QuickenWindow\qw.exe_StrongName_kcd3dgwhvwi4wqkcd0s5zhuwduwxjlq1\23.1.3.15
    • Windows Vista Family (Vista, 7, 8, 10) = C:\Users\<your user name>\AppData\Local\Intuit_Inc\QW.EXE_StrongName_kcd3dgwhvwi4wqkcd0s5zhuwduwxjlq1\23.1.3.15
  • Right click the User.config file and choose Rename
  • Type a letter X in front of the file name and hit the Enter key
    • It should look like this, now -  xUser.config
  • Download and install the Mondo Patch
  • Launch Quicken 2014 after update is complete, to confirm the crash condition is now resolved
