Quicken for Windows

Install the 2018 Release of Quicken

You don’t have to uninstall anything during this process.  Quicken Windows 2015 will be removed during your 2018 Release installation, but will leave your data files untouched.

  1. Install Quicken and follow the on-screen instructions.  If you're not sure where to start, these articles will help: Install Quicken from a CD or Install Quicken from a download
  2. When the installation is complete, you'll be prompted to Select an existing data file to get started.  Quicken will automatically try to open your most recent data file.
  3. After you select a file, Quicken will convert the file automatically.

Register and start using the 2018 Release of Quicken

  1. Sign in with your Quicken ID when prompted (the same Quicken ID you used in your 2015 file); if you forgot your password, just click on I forgot my password on the sign-in screen.
  2. If prompted, enter your 16-digit activation code. If you need further assistance with the activation process, click here
  3. Select your mobile preference. Using the Quicken Mobile App is optional and will not affect how you use the desktop program. You can also change this setting later if necessary.
  4. Start using the 2018 Release of Quicken!

Quicken for Windows Installation Troubleshooting

My data file doesn’t have all of the information I'm expecting to see: Look at the top left of the Quicken window - is the name of the file what you expect it to be?  Sometimes during conversion, Quicken will choose an older version of your file to convert, rather than the most recent version.  Just go to File > Backup and Restore > Restore from backup to navigate to the correct file on your system.

I can’t update my accounts after converting my file: Sometimes you just need to refresh your accounts after a file conversion; go to Tools > Account List and click Edit on any of the accounts that aren't updating.  Under the Online Services tab, click Reset Account. Do this on any of the accounts that aren't updating.

I can't install Quicken at all: If you’ve had different versions of Quicken installed on your computer, some of their components could be stuck on your system, preventing Quicken from installing.  To fix this, follow the instructions here for using QcleanUI - this is a tool that you’ll download to remove all Quicken components from your computer.  Now that your computer is clean, try installing the 2018 Release of Quicken again.  Don’t worry: QcleanUI only affects the Quicken program, not your Quicken data files.

I'm being asked for an activation code, but I don't have one: For more information on this issue, click here
