Quicken 2016 for Mac is asking me to install an update. Should I do this?

Yes. You should always download free product updates as they become available. If you purchase from the Mac App Store we recommend turning on automatic updates. See this Apple support article.

Does Quicken 2016 for Mac have Bill Pay?

Yes. Quicken 2016 supports Direct Connect Bill Pay from over 450 financial institutions. Pay any bill without leaving Quicken. You can also transfers funds between accounts at the same financial institution.

In order to use Bill Pay in Quicken, your bank must support Direct Connect Bill Pay. Check your bank’s website or call your bank to see if they support Quicken Bill Pay.

Do I need to register my copy of Quicken 2016 for Mac?

Yes. You’ll be guided to enter your Intuit ID and register Quicken during your first use.

If you don’t have an Intuit ID, you can create one when you start using Quicken, or you can use the same Intuit ID that you’re already using with other Intuit products, such as TurboTax, Mint.com, or QuickBooks.

Can I convert from other Quicken products to Quicken 2016 for Mac?

Quicken Essentials (Mac)

All accounts, transactions, categories, tags, budgets, and bill reminders from Quicken Essentials for Mac will convert to Quicken 2016 for Mac. Investing accounts will also convert. Since Quicken 2016 for Mac supports more detailed investment tracking (transactions and lots, rather than just holdings) many customers using connected accounts find that starting “from scratch” by re-adding your investing accounts is sometimes easier than updating existing Quicken Essentials account data with missing information.

Quicken for Mac 2007

The majority of your account data from Quicken Mac 2007 will convert to Quicken 2016; all accounts, transactions, categories, tags (classes), scheduled transactions and bill pay transactions will convert. Budgets and transaction attachments will NOT transfer.

Some features from Quicken Mac 2007 are not currently available in Quicken 2016 for Mac so information related to unsupported features will NOT transfer. This in includes: loan amortization schedules, Home Inventory and emergency records data, explicit lot assignments, and securities watch list.

After converting to Quicken 2016 you will need to reestablish transaction download for your connected accounts (See “Accounts > Setup transaction download…” in Quicken for Mac 2016). You may also be able setup automatic download for additional accounts, since Quicken for Mac 2016 supports download from more financial institutions than Quicken for Mac 2007.

Quicken for Mac 2015

All Quicken for Mac 2015 data will convert to Quicken for Mac 2016.

Quicken for Windows (2010 or newer)

Your account data from Quicken Windows (2010 or newer) will convert to Quicken 2016; account data, transactions, categories, tags, scheduled transactions and bill pay transactions will convert. Budgets and transaction attachments will NOT transfer.

Some features from Quicken Windows are not currently available in Quicken 2016 for Mac so information related to unsupported features will NOT transfer. This includes loan amortization schedules, Home Inventory and emergency records data, explicit lot assignments, securities watch list, address book, and lifetime planner. ESPP and Incentive Stock options will transfer as a standard holding (without tax-related information such as strike price).

If you have Quicken Windows Rental Property Manager, your account data is preserved, but you will not get rental property manager-specific features such as tenant list and rent center data. If you have Quicken Windows Home and Business, your account data is preserved, but you will not get business-specific invoicing data.

After converting to Quicken 2016 you will need to reestablish transaction downloads for your connected accounts (See “Accounts > Setup transaction download…” in Quicken for Mac 2016).

Can I use Quicken 2016 for Mac on more than one computer?

Yes. You can install Quicken 2016 for Mac on up to three computers in the same household. We do not recommend sharing a data file on a network/cloud drive.

What are the system requirements for Quicken 2016 for Mac?

The system requirements are:

  • Mac OS X 10.10 (Yosemite) or newer
  • Broadband internet connection

Is there a trial version of Quicken 2016 for Mac? I’d like to try it out.

Can Quicken 2016 for Mac automatically download from banks and brokerages?

Yes. Quicken 2016 supports automatic transaction download from over 14,500 financial institutions—more than any previous Mac version. Just click the update button to download everything, or selectively download one at a time - your choice. Of course you can still manage any account, including investing accounts, manually if this is your preference.

What if I have a version of Quicken for Mac older than 2007 or Quicken Windows version that that is older than 2010? Can I convert my data to Quicken 2016 for Mac?

Converting data from versions of Quicken Windows and Quicken Mac older than the versions listed in the question above is not supported.

Which devices are supported by Quicken mobile app?

It supports iOS 8.0 and 9.0 or higher (iPhone and iPad) and Android 3.0 or higher (phone and tablet) devices. Windows and Blackberry devices are not supported at this time.

What does the Quicken mobile app do?

The Quicken mobile app is a companion app that syncs with Quicken for Mac 2016. You can enable (or disable) mobile access when you start using Quicken for Mac 2016.

The mobile app gives you anywhere, anytime access for iPhone, iPad, and Android devices and provides the following capabilities:

  • Syncs your desktop and mobile info across devices
  • Shows account balances and transactions
  • Automatically pulls in your Quicken desktop budget
  • Attach images of receipts to transactions
  • Easy-to-understand spending graphs

Can I install Quicken 2016 for Mac on my tablet?

Quicken for Mac 2016 is for your Mac (10.10 Yosemite or later), so you can’t install the full version of Quicken 2016 for Mac on your mobile devices. However, the free Quicken mobile app is available for iPad and Android tablets. The mobile app is available for iOS devices from iTunes and for Android devices from Google Play or the Amazon App Store.

What does “free features” mean?

The Quicken team is committed to continuous improvement and updates for Quicken for Mac. These free updates are delivered via periodic product updates when and if they are available.

Is Quicken 2016 for Mac a subscription service?

Quicken 2016 for Mac is a one-time payment product, not a subscription service. There is no automatic renewal.

What is the difference between Quicken 2016 for Mac and other Quicken products?

Quicken 2016 for Mac enables you to track your portfolio, manage investments and plan for taxes:

Yes. A customizable calendar allows you to view past transactions, future Scheduled Transactions/Bill Reminders, future Bill Pay transactions and past investing transactions. You can also see investment day change and a daily running balance.

Can I convert my current Quicken data file to Quicken 2016 for Mac?

Yes, if you have Quicken 2007, Quicken Essential for Mac, or Quicken Windows 2010 or newer version.

Can I still use a register to manage my account transactions?

Yes. Account registers make it easier than ever to manage your transactions—super-fast search and filtering options, customizable columns and row height. Plus all the features you expect from Quicken—categories, splits, tags, attachments, check printing and more.

Can I reconcile my accounts?

Yes. Quicken supports manual reconciliation so you can reconcile downloaded (or manually entered) transactions against your bank statement.

Does Quicken 2016 for Mac support Tags?

Yes. Quicken 2016 allows you to apply your own, custom tags to any transaction (including investing transactions). You can apply both a category and a tag to a transaction. (Note to Quicken 2007 customers: Tags work very much like “Classes” in 2007. The classes you use in 2007 are converted to Tags if you import your existing data file.

Does Quicken 2016 for Mac support scheduled transactions?

Yes. Quicken 2016 has Bill & Income Reminders, which is what older Quicken versions called scheduled transactions. You can schedule bills, income and transfers. You can see Reminders in the Bills view as part of the Cash Flow graph and even choose to display Reminders in your account register, so you can see at a glance how your upcoming reminders impact your account balance.
