How To Create and Edit Renaming Rules

To Create a New Rule

  1. Click on Edit > Preferences.
  2. Under Register, click on Downloaded Transactions.
  3. Click on Renaming Rules.
  4. Click Add a Rule.
  5. Define the method you want Quicken to use to map similar names to be renamed to the new name.
    • In the drop down menu, select criteria such as If payee contains or If Quicken name is.
    • In the Enter text to search for field, enter a name or partial name. For example, if Quagmire Enterprises was entered as the new name, and the method was defined as Payee contains Quagmire Ent, then both QUAGMIRE ENTRPR 009 and Quagmire Enterprises River Road would be renamed to Quagmire Enterprises.
  6. Press OK.

To Edit an Existing Rule

  1. Click on Edit > Preferences.
  2. Under Register, click on Downloaded Transactions.
  3. Click on Renaming Rules.
  4. Select the Rule you want to edit.
  5. Click on Edit the name for this payee (Pencil icon) to edit the rule.
  6. Enter the new Payee name.
  7. To save the rule, click OK.

To Add a Rule to an Existing Rule:

  1. Click on Edit > Preferences.
  2. Under Register, click on Downloaded Transactions.
  3. Click on Renaming Rules.
  4. Select the Rule you want to edit.
  5. Click on Add a rule for this payee name (plus icon).
  6. Define the method you want Quicken to use to map similar names to be renamed to the new name.
    • In the drop down menu, select criteria such as If payee contains or If Quicken name is.
    • In the Enter text to search for field, enter a name or partial name. For example, if Quagmire Enterprises was entered as the new name, and the method was defined as Payee contains Quagmire Ent, then both QUAGMIRE ENTRPR 009 and Quagmire Enterprises River Road would be renamed to Quagmire Enterprises.
  7. Press OK.
