Overview

Your financial institution's way of listing payee names may contain irrelevant detail (such as a store number or exact location) that can quickly clutter your Memorized Payee List. When you update transactions with your participating financial institution, Quicken can use renaming rules to standardize payee names and avoid this problem.

Note: Renaming rules are available only for online-activated accounts.

Instructions

To Create a New Rule

  1. Click on Edit > Preferences.
  2. Under Register, click on Downloaded Transactions.
  3. Click on Renaming Rules.
  4. Click Add a Rule.
  5. Define the method you want Quicken to use to map similar names to be renamed to the new name.
    • In the drop down menu, select criteria such as If payee contains or If Quicken name is.
    • In the Enter text to search for field, enter a name or partial name. For example, if Quagmire Enterprises was entered as the new name, and the method was defined as Payee contains Quagmire Ent, then both QUAGMIRE ENTRPR 009 and Quagmire Enterprises River Road would be renamed to Quagmire Enterprises.
  6. Press OK.

To Edit an Existing Rule
