With the customizing online update options, you can select specific accounts, securities and other items you want to include in your One Step Update session. You can also use One Step Update to change your Quicken.com password and member ID.
Depending on the options selected, you may have to restart Quicken before your changes take effect.
- Choose Edit menu > Preferences > Customize Online Updates.
- As necessary, change the online update options.
- Quotes: Select the securities you want to download prices for. To exclude a security from the list of securities to update, clear the check mark in front of the security name (you can always add it back later).
- Click New Security.
- Enter information about the security in each field.
- Make sure Show in Watch List is selected. Now the security will be added to your Watch List.
- Click Other Info to enter more detailed information about the security. (Optional)
- Click OK.
Note: For an explanation of what you need to do in the Set Up Security dialog, click the Help icon. Click the Look Up button if you don't know the security's ticker symbol. Quicken uses ticker symbols to retrieve prices; you won't be able to download a price without it.
- To find a missing ticker symbol
- Select the security with the missing symbol.
- Click Look Up Symbol.
- Quicken connects to the Internet (if you're not already connected) and locates the page that has the ticker symbol lookup tool, located on the Quicken.com web site.
- Copy and paste the ticker symbol. How do I cut and paste the ticker symbol?
- Select the ticker symbol.
- Press CTRL+C to copy the symbol.
- Go back to Quicken.
- Press CTRL+V to paste the ticker symbol in the symbol field.
- Portfolio
- Select the Quicken investment accounts for which you want to export information to your own password-protected space on Quicken.com, where you can check it from any Web-connected computer.
- Select Track my Watch List on Quicken.com to include securities listed in your Watch List.
- You can export your holdings to Quicken.com. To track only your portfolio value (holdings), select Send my Shares. To track just the current share prices of your portfolio (market price per share), select Send only my Symbols.

- Set Quicken Usage Study options: Send anonymous product usage data during One Step Update: Select this option to participate in our efforts to improve Quicken. The Quicken team depends on feedback from you, our customer, to improve our products. We want to better understand how you use Quicken, for example, what features you use most often and how you navigate through the program. We don't collect any personal information or financial data. Also, we assure you that this information won't be used to contact you. Your trust and privacy are very important to us.
- Set One Step Update options: Run One Step Update when starting Quicken. When this option is selected, One Step Update will run automatically when you start Quicken.
- Set Quicken.com login options: Change my Quicken.com Member ID and password the next time I run One Step Update: When this option is selected, Quicken will ask you to change your Member ID and password for your personal space on Quicken.com the next time you complete a One Step Update session.
- Click OK to save your changes.
