To download quotes for Canadian securities:

The U.S. version of Quicken will download most Canadian stock quotes. In order to download security prices, the ticker symbol for the security must have the exchange identifier and a colon entered before the ticker symbol.

Quicken supports security quotes from the Toronto and Canadian Venture Exchange. Use the appropriate exchange identifier below.

  • Toronto: TSE
  • Canadian Venture Exchange: VSE
  • Canadian Stock Exchange: CNX

For example, to download quotes for Alcan, (ticker symbol AL) traded on the Toronto exchange, you would enter the ticker symbol TSE:AL

Note: If you do not precede each Canadian stock symbol with the correct exchange identifier, you may download US exchange prices instead of Canadian exchange prices. Downloading historical prices for Canadian quotes is not available. Only daily quotes will update.

Quicken does not support quotes download for securities with more than one period in the ticker symbol.  For example, the ticker symbol for International Forest products is IFP.SV.A. Because the ticker has more than one period in the ticker symbol, you cannot download quotes for this security.

If you need to update quotes for securities with more than one period in the ticker symbol, you can import a CSV file that contains the quotes. CSV files are available for download from many financial websites such as Yahoo! Finance.

Once you have the CSV file containing the quotes you want to import, follow these steps.

  1. Open the Portfolio View in Quicken.
  2. Choose the File > File Import > Import security prices from CSV file...
  3. Complete the Import Price Data dialog, and then click OK.

To download stock prices from Canadian exchanges:

  1. From the Tools menu, choose One Step Update, then click select quotes next to Download quotes and investment information.
  2. If you already have Canadian securities set up, it is very important that you edit each security symbol to include an exchange identifier.
    1. Select the first Canadian security in the list, and then click Edit Security.
    2. Precede the security symbol with the correct exchange identifier and a colon. For example, TSE:AL would download the Toronto Stock exchange price for the Canadian company Alcan Inc. See the list below for each Canadian exchange identifier that Quicken uses.
    3. Repeat steps a and b for each Canadian security in the list.
  3. If you do not have Canadian securities set up:
    1. Click New Security.
    2. Enter the name of the security in the Name field.
    3. Enter the security symbol in the Symbol field preceded by the exchange identifier and a colon. Type the correct exchange identifier and a colon in front of the symbol. For example, TSE:AL would download the Toronto Stock exchange price for the Canadian company Alcan Inc. See the list below for the correct exchange identifier for each Canadian exchange that Quicken uses.
    4. Select Stock for the security type, and then click OK.
    5. Repeat steps a through d for any other securities you would like to add.

Exchange Identifier list:

  • Toronto: TSE
  • Canadian Venture Exchange: VSE
  • Canadian Stock Exchange: CNX

Note: If you do not precede each Canadian stock symbol with a correct exchange identifier, you may download incorrect prices. Also, downloading of historical prices for Canadian quotes is not available. Only daily quotes will update.
