Payee Name Cut Off or Has a Generic Payee Name like CHECK

Overview

On the websites for some financial institutions, you may see more information about your payees than you see in Quicken. For example, the end of your payee names may be cut off, or you may see just a generic name for payees. To name a few:

  • CHECK
  • WITHDRAWAL
  • DEPOSIT
  • LINE OF CREDIT
  • CLEARED CHECK
  • CASH WITHDRAWAL
  • ELECTRONIC PAYMENT

Cause

Your financial institution sends us information in a format that Quicken cannot support.

If you're curious about technical details, the financial institution is sending the unexpected name in the tag <NAME> or <PAYEE> and using the tag <MEMO> for the actual Payee name. You can see this condition if you examine the .QFX file that you can download from your banks website or the OFX Log in Quicken.

Instructions

The current work-around is to use Renaming Rules for these Payees.  This resolves the problem for most of the Payees. If renaming rules fails to modify the payee, then change each payee name yourself manually. We are working on improving the Renaming Rules to better handle this condition in a future version of Quicken.
