Overview

American Express has made recent updates, and this will require you to take action in Quicken in order to continue downloading transactions.  

Deactivate and reactivate the accounts in Quicken

Open Quicken, and then deactivate and reactivate your American Express account(s):

To deactivate your account:

Deactivate a Quicken for Windows account

  1. Select the Tools menu and select Account List
  2. In the Account List, select the account for which you want to deactivate online services, and then click Edit
  3. In the Account Details window, click the Online Services tab.
  4. Click Deactivate next to the service you want to disable.
  5. Click Yes to the message asking if you want to disable this service. Note: If you do not receive this message, additional information is available below
    • Direct Connect users: If you are deactivating a Direct Connect account, you may see an additional prompt advising you to contact your bank to cancel the Direct Connect service.

      Click OK to the confirmation message.  

If you have an investment account that is linked to a cash account, you need to deactivate the online services from the investment account which will automatically deactivate the linked cash account.

Deactivate a Quicken for Mac account

  1. Click on the account name in the bar down the side of Quicken Mac.
  2. Click the Settings gear icon in the bottom right corner.
  3. Click the Troubleshooting button.

  4. Click the Deactivate Downloads button.
  5. Click Save.

To reactivate your account:

To Reactivate Account(s) in Quicken for Windows

  1. Open the Account List (Ctrl + A).
  2. Click the Edit button on the account you want to reactivate.
  3. Go to the Online Services tab and click the Set up Now button.
  4. Type in the financial institution name and walk through the wizard.
  5. Choose LINK on the screen displayed after Quicken finds the available accounts at the financial institution for your login credentials and carefully link to your existing Quicken account(s).

To Reactivate Account(s) in Quicken for Mac

  1. Click the account name in the list displayed down the side of Quicken to open the register.
  2. Click the Settings gear in the lower right corner of the register view.
  3. Click the Set up Transaction Download button.  
  4. Type in the financial institution name and walk through the wizard. 
    1. If you have an American Express Delta SkyMiles Card account: Select American Express as the financial institution, then click Options.
    2. Select Direct Connect.
    3. Click Continue
  5. Choose LINK on the screen displayed after Quicken finds the available accounts at the financial institution for your login credentials, and carefully link to your existing Quicken account(s).

Please note: It is possible, but not likely, that duplicate transactions may appear in your account after completing this process; if this is the case, you can delete these duplicate transactions.  Duplicates should not occur after this initial deactivate and reactivate process.
