This topic explains in detail what do you need to know and do before you convert your data to Quicken for Mac 2016 and 2017.

Before starting the conversion, you must learn what data can be carried over to Quicken for Mac 2016 and 2017 from other versions of Quicken or from other personal finance applications.

The tasks you need to do before converting depends on the application you are migrating from:

Quicken Mac 2007

If you are converting from Quicken Mac 2007, you need to perform the these tasks:

  • Prepare the existing Quicken 2007 data file
    • Open your Quicken Mac 2007 application.
    • Update all your accounts and download the latest transactions.
    • Fix all transaction related issues such as duplicate or missing transactions.
    • Remove your data file password.
    • Accept all downloaded transactions.
    • Cancel all repeating and pending online payments.
    • Exit Quicken Mac 2007.

     
    Note
    : After preparing your data file, check your online and Quicken account balances. Ensure that you note down the balances, so that you can verify later in Quicken for Mac.

Quicken Windows 2010

If you are converting from Quicken Windows 2010, you need to perform these tasks:

  • Prepare the existing Quicken for Windows data file
    • In Quicken Windows, open your data file.
    • Update all your accounts and download the latest transactions.
    • Fix all transaction related issues such as duplicate or missing transactions.
    • Remove your data file and transactions passwords.
    • Ensure that there are no hidden accounts.
    • Ensure that the account names and category names are not more than 15 characters long.
    • Ensure that the security names do not contain any special characters and the ticker symbols are in upper case.
    • Accept all downloaded transactions.
    • Cancel all repeating and pending online payments.
    • Quit the Quicken Windows application.

      : After preparing your data file, check your online and Quicken account balances. Ensure that you note down the balances, so that you can verify later in Quicken for Mac.

    • Download and run the Quicken Windows converter utility
      • On your Windows computer, download the latest file conversion utility. You can get the latest conversion utility here.
      • Unzip and install the utility on Windows computer.
      • Run the utility, select the data file you wish to convert and follow the onscreen instructions.

      The convesion utility will create a .QXF file.

    Quicken Windows 2011 or Higher

    If you are converting from Quicken Windows 2011 or higher, you need to perform these tasks:

    • Prepare the existing Quicken for Windows data file
      • In Quicken Windows, open your data file.
      • Update all your accounts and download the latest transactions.
      • Fix all transaction related issues such as duplicate or missing transactions.
      • Remove your data file and transactions passwords.
      • Ensure that there are no hidden accounts.
      • Ensure that the account names and category names are not more than 15 characters long.
