Overview

To protect your financial information in a Quicken data file from unauthorized changes, you can set up a data file password in Quicken:

Add a data file password

To add a data file password:

  1. In Quicken for Mac choose File > Set File Password.
  2. Click Set Password.
  3. Enter a password.
  4. Enter the password again in the Verify field.
  5. Enter a hint to help you remember the password.
  6. Click Set Password.

Change your data file password

To change the password for a data file:

  1. In Quicken for Mac choose File > Set File Password.
  2. Click Remove Password.
  3. Enter the existing password.
  4. Click Set Password.
  5. Enter a new password.
  6. Enter the new password again in the Verify field.
  7. Enter a hint to help you remember the new password.
  8. Click Change Password.

Remove your data file password

To remove the password from a data file:

  1. In Quicken for Mac choose File > Set File Password.
  2. Click Remove Password.
  3. Enter the existing password.
  4. Click Remove Password.

What if I forgot the data file password?

You will need to use the Quicken Assisted Password Removal Service.
