Overview
In some circumstances, Quicken for Windows may start to slow down, freeze, or crash during the One Step Update process when updating connected accounts. While the actual cause of the performance dip or crash can be hard to isolate, we do have a list of possible fixes and troubleshooting steps to try.
Find and deactivate the affected account
Sometimes a specific connected account can be the issue and slow down all others when performing a One Step Update. Below are the steps to find the affected account, deactivate it, and then reconnect it to Quicken.
From the Account List, select the first connected account.
Click the Actions (gear) icon in the upper right of the transaction window.
Choose Update now.
Repeat the process for each connected account until you find the one freezing during the update.
Deactivate and reactivate the affected connected account.Attempt the One Step Update again.
Disable Mobile & Web Sync
If you have Mobile & Web Sync enabled, a possible solution for slow One Step Updates is to disable the Mobile & Web Sync feature within Quicken when not actively using it.
From the Edit menu, choose Preferences....
Click Mobile & Web from the left-hand menu.
Click the Sync toggle so it reads OFF.
Attempt the One Step Update again.
Reset Sync to Cloud data
Log out of the Quicken mobile app (if applicable) and access Quicken on your desktop/laptop.
From the Edit menu, choose Preferences....
Choose Mobile & Web from the left-hand menu.
Click the blue Reset your cloud data link and follow the on-screen instructions to reset Cloud Sync.
Sync your desktop file to the cloud.
Log back into the mobile app (if applicable).
Turn off pending transactions
From the Edit menu, choose Preferences....
Choose Pending transactions from the left-hand menu.
Click the Pending transaction toggle so it reads OFF.
Attempt the One Step Update again.
Refresh the Online Connected Services token
Signing out and back in of your data file refreshes the registration token for your Online Connected Services, which may help resolve performance issues with the One Step Update.

From the Edit menu, choose Preferences....
Choose Quicken ID & Cloud Accounts from the left-hand menu.
Click the blue Sign in as a different user link in the Quicken profile section.
Follow the on-screen prompts to sign out.
Sign back into Quicken using your Quicken ID (email) and password.
Attempt the One Step Update again.
Install the latest Manual Patch file
Even if you are on the latest software version already, downloading and installing the most recent Manual Patch file ensures your Quicken software is up to date and all files are correctly installed.
You can find the latest update file and
Deactivate VPN, firewall, and/or antivirus software
If you are using any VPN, firewall, or antivirus software, they could be affecting the One Step Update process and causing the performance issues. It is recommended to disable these services and then retry the One Step Update to see if the problem persists.
Validate and Repair File
Note: It is highly recommended you
From the File menu, choose Validate and Repair File....
Check the Validate file checkbox.
If you have investment accounts, check the Rebuild investing tools and Correct investing price history checkbox.
Click OK.
After the process completes, close Quicken and leave it closed for 30 seconds.
Reopen Quicken and attempt the One Step Update again.
Uninstall and reinstall Quicken
If none of the other troubleshooting steps worked, uninstalling and reinstalling the Quicken software may help resolve the freezing and/or crashing issue.
